207 SQUADRON ROYAL AIR FORCE HISTORY

207's Washingtons

207 Squadron Washington EM-B WF565

207 Squadron at RAF Marham in Norfolk was one of eight squadrons equipped with B-29 Superfortresses on loan from the US Government. They were used as an interim strategic bomber between the obsolete Avro Lincolns and the new jet bombers.

Relatively luxurious equipment, technical differences and large crew made them a novelty for air and groundcrew. Serviceability was reputedly not helped by an inadequate purchase of spares. 207 flew Washington B.1s from July 1951 to March 1954. Aircraft in bold were longest in use with 207.
