former No. 55 Base, RAF East Kirkby
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
RAF East Kirkby was the administrative No. 55 Base Station responsible for No. 207 and later also No. 44 Squadron at Spilsby, No. 619 Sqn at Strubby and Nos. 57 and 630 Sqns at East Kirkby.
East Kirkby is now home to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, the centrepieces of which are the taxying Lancaster NX611, the restored Control Tower and the RAF Escaping Society Museum among many others.
207 Squadron RAF Association enjoyed a long and happy friendship with the Aviation Heritage Centre. In the hangar there is a display album about the Squadron when at Spilsby. Fred & Harold Panton, co-founders of the Centre, were Honorary Members of the former Association. Fred, who had been awarded the MBE for his work, died in 2013.
