207 SQUADRON ROYAL AIR FORCE HISTORY

Station Chapel
RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire

A Memorial Tablet and Memorial Book were dedicated on 7th September 1996.

The Tablet was unveiled by Wg Cdr 'Thos' Murray DSO DFC*, a former 207 Sqn Flight Commander at Waddington who flew 20 ops on Manchesters.

The Memorial Book was carried by Sqn Ldr Max Riddell DFC DFM, escorted by Wg Cdr 'Penny' Beauchamp DSO* DFC and Wg Cdr 'Goldie' Goldstraw DFC*, each of whom did many ops on the Manchester.

Max Riddell was 'Kipper' Herring's Wireless Operator on Kipper's epic return from Berlin on one engine in a Manchester.

This incident is portrayed on the cover of Robert Kirby's book Avro Manchester - The Legend behind the Lancaster

'Kipper' Herring's son, an ex-Vulcan Captain who himself flew from Waddington, was also present.
