The village of Linton-on-Ouse

The arrival of the RAF Station in the 1930s had a huge impact on the small village of Linton-on-Ouse. The Station is a major employer and contributor to the local community. The airfield has activity levels approaching those of international airports and everything possible is done to minimise any disturbance. A high level of quality in environmental protection is reflected in the training offered to employers and the Station is active in Conservation. The local community is supported in many ways: through the annual charity event, the Autumn Fayre; numerous individual charity and sponsored events throughout the year. Recently new car parks have been provided for the Village Hall and Linton school.	The main road through Linton-on-Ouse, from the A1(M) via the toll bridge. This spot is at the junction with the access road to the RAF Station. The Memorial below is on the right along here.

Station staff run courses in the Village Hall; the Station Fire Service is manned 24x7 and responds to incidents in the village; the RAF Police patrol the village and the presence of the Station helps to justify the local bus service.

THIS MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ERECTED THAT WE AND GENERATIONS TO COME MIGHT PAUSE AND REFLECT UPON THE DEDICATION AND SACRIFICE OF THOSE WHO DIED IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM AND HUMAN DIGNITY WHILE SERVING WITH THE 408 (GOOSE) AND 426 (THUNDERBIRD) SQUADRON "AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM" IN GRATITUDE WE HALLOW THAT MEMORY AND THE SPIRIT THAT BINDS US IN COMMITMENT TO THOSE HUMAN RIGHTS AND VALUES FOR WHICH WE STROVE: A BOND FORGED IN A PERILOUS TIME OF SHARED SACRIFICE AND STRUGGLE. ERECTED BY THE ASSOCIATIONS OF FORMER MEMBERS OF 408 SQUADRON AND 426 SQUADRON AND THE PEOPLE OF THE VILLAGE OF LINTON-ON-OUSE. DEDICATED THE 4TH DAY OF MAY 1990 "
